FMU Player Rules & Expectations

Welcome to FMU – a community-focused, competitive amateur soccer organization. Our goal is to promote camaraderie, fairness, and fun through football. In order to preserve the quality and spirit of FMU, the following rules and expectations must be respected by all players.

1. Attendance & Communication

  • If you confirm attendance but fail to show up without notifying us by 10AM on game day, a $20 penalty will be added to your next season’s fee.
    • Monday teams: Confirm by Sunday Afternoon
    • Thursday teams: Confirm by Wednesday Afternoon
  • Three violations will result in removal from the team. This applies to both absences and late arrivals.
  • Emergencies are respected and will be considered with proper communication.
  • If your availability changes, send a message ASAP so we can still coordinate a sub.
  • Respect the time and effort of your teammates to show up for the game.

2. Commitment & Payments

  • All players must commit to at least 5 of 9 games per season. If unable, request sub status.
  • Roster size: 11 field players per team.
  • Player fee of $105 is due before Game 1.
  • Sub fees or add-ons (e.g., jersey $25) must be paid in advance.
  • Everyone will need to purchase HOME Black FMU Jersey [link]
  • AWAY White FMU Jersey will be optional

3. Game Day Expectations

  • Arrive 15 minutes before kickoff.
  • Wear your designated FMU team jersey and have other color as spare if needed.
  • Be prepared to give 100%. No arriving tired from other games. Play for non FMU teams after our games.
  • Use subs wisely. Rest if needed – no walking on the field allowed. Run hard, play hard and sub out. You will burn more energy than being on the field just to count down more minutes.
    • Communicate on the field. Talk, call out marks, and stay alert.
    • Sub equally – no favoritism or ball-hogging.

4. Playing Rules & Style

  • Play simple, smart soccer:
    • One or two-touch passing
    • Stay open for passes
    • Do NOT dribble unnecessarily
    • Always mark a man in defense – no zone!
    • Maintain 2 defenders at all times, 3 if needed to maintain the lead or if the opponent is      more skilled, try counter-attacks
    • Clear pressure, never pass to the box under stress
    • Track back; midfielders and forwards must help defend
    • If we lack a goalie, players will take turns each half (Captain will select if nobody offers their services).

5. Culture & Conduct

  • FMU is about friendship, not just winning.
  • We value inclusion – players of all skill levels should feel part of the team.
  • No negativity, player poaching, or toxic behavior.
  • Repeat offenders may not be invited back. Refunds may be issued to maintain team harmony.
  • Team captains will lead communication, assign roles, and help maintain discipline.
  • Try to socialize off the field at least once per season (Silverbacks Café or 3 Dollar Café).
  • Your attitude reflects on you – show commitment and respect, or reconsider your spot.

Let’s work together to keep FMU a welcoming, competitive, and organized football community.
